The fourth grade curriculum continues to focus on educating students in the ways of Christ through the Commandments and Beatitudes. As students work through the school year, they will develop a deeper appreciation of Language and Literature through exposure to various genres. In addition, they will build upon previously learned skills to enhance Mathematical concepts, explore the history of Indiana, and engage in a variety of hands on Science activities.
Education in faith remains the primary goal, as students are presented with an overview of the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. Scripture readings are used to guide the students to live a life closer to God. In addition, students study the Our Father, lives of Mary and different saints to use as models of faith. Students also attend weekly mass and a monthly Stewardship program.
Students expand their vocabulary through weekly reading of fiction and nonfiction stories. They also focus on phonemic awareness, using correct grammar through daily practice, fluency through oral reading, spelling, writing expository, narrative, and descriptive texts, and comprehensive skills such as summarizing, fact/opinion, main idea, and drawing conclusions.
Students solve problems using various strategies, multiply and divide whole numbers, explore principles of geometry including area and perimeter, expand their knowledge of fractions, learning about measurement in standard and metric units, analyze data on charts and create charts as well, learn about probability and statistics, and work on daily problem solving.
Through the use of the scientific methods, demonstrations and experiments, students explore the world around them including: Life sciences, Earth sciences, and Physical sciences.
Students will focus on the geography, government, people and history of Indiana. Students will also get to experience life in early Indiana with a trip to Connor Prairie.
Students will focus on keyboarding skills, applied digital skills, digital citizenship and internet safety, computer components, and coding.
During music class, students will combine rhythms, understand note values, understand how to read notes on a scale, explore purposeful movement like marching, swaying, stomping, and clapping, and get to learn how to play the recorder.
Students will focus on art elements, vocabulary, art appreciation, unique creations, faith-based holiday projects, and cross-curricular projects.
Indiana State Standards are incorporated into games and exercises. Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship and teamwork, respecting others, trying many types of sports, self-assessment and goal setting for physical fitness, and making healthy life choices.
4th Grade Teacher
I attended St. Paul for grade school before graduating from Providence High School in 1995 and then Indiana University Southeast in 2000 with my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement.
I taught one year in Louisville before joining the SAS family in 2001. I began teaching 2nd grade here, before moving to 3rd grade. In 2008, I left to stay at home and raise 3 children. Once they were older, I stayed active in the school community by subbing and taking over temporary positions in various grades at St. John Paul. When a 3rd grade position became available at St. Anthony's, I was excited to come back and once again teach at St. Anthony School.
I have been married to my husband, Garrett, for over 16 years. We have three wonderful kids, Audrey, Harrison, and Ava. In my spare time I love reading, watching Hallmark movies, watching IU basketball and football games, and Colts football games. I also enjoy cooking, taking walks, and hanging out with my family. A fun fact about me is that I volunteered in the St. Anthony After School Care when I was a junior at Providence High School.
