I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from the University of Louisville in 1983. I completed my Master's Degree in Health and Education in 1985, a Rank I Degree in Elementary Education in 1988 and National Board Certification in 2001 with a re-certification in 2011 in Early Childhood Physical Education. I semi-retired in 2013, but missed teaching so much, I decided to return.
I have taught Physical Education for over 35 years and 32 of those have been in elementary school setting. I began working at St. Anthony School in 2016. My goal as a Physical Educator is to teach the whole child. My lessons are geared toward physical activity, but also have a component to connect physical movement to improve brain function. By providing varied physical activities, I hope that each student will find some type of physical activity that they will be able to enjoy and participate in for their lifetime.
I have one son, Connor, 2 dogs, Izzie & Waggles, and 1 cat, Hunter. In my spare time, I enjoy exercising and gardening. One fun fact about me is that I only missed one day of school from K - 12th grade.
Educational Statement
My goal as a Physical Educator is to teach the whole child. My lessons are geared toward physical activity, but also have a component to connect physical movement to improve brain function. Physicaly fit children are better prepared to perform academically. Movement helps the brain prepare for new information. By providing varied physical activities, I hope that each student will find some type of physical activity she/he will be able to enjoy and participate in for their lifetime.
I also develop my lessons to help each student to become a confident individual while respecting each person's differences. These activities provide opportunities for students to find their strengths and weakness and how to work together to utilize these talents productively. Many of our activities include cooperative learning and team building components. I strive to provide opportunities for each child to grow in Christian faith and develop Christian values. By having students work independently and in a group setting, they will be able to put the skills they have learned in all areas into practice.
