We are again partnering with SchoolStore.com to raise funds for essential tools our students and teachers need to succeed. SchoolStore’s program in 100% online so there is not selling or handling of money or products. Your participation is easy with no more than 12 minutes of your time required, and there is a nice program available to make this a fun experience. Please look for a SchoolStore.com envelope coming home with your child today. Follow the directions in the envelope and earn money for St. Anthony School.
Due to an excessive amount of cars on the parish side of the annex during dismissal, we are slightly changing our dismissal process. The parish side will now be K-2 and the playground side will now be 3-8.
Cell Phone The staff of St. Anthony School highly discourages the bringing of cell phones to school. If the parents feel that a child needs a cell phone the cell phone must remain turned off and in a student’s backpack. The cell phone may not be used at any time during the school day, as this disrupts the learning process. If a student’s cell phone goes off, or if a student chooses to use his or her cell phone during the school day (including morning care, dismissal, and after school care), then the staff will confiscate the cell phone and parents will need to retrieve it from the Principal. Students whose cell phones in their possession during the day will receive a grade appropriate consequence. SmartWatch Policy The staff of St. Anthony School prohibits the bringing of smart watches to school. If a student wears a SmartWatch to school, then the staff will confiscate the smart watch and parents will need to retrieve it from the Principal.
We are still looking for some room parents. We could use more helpers in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3W, 4th, and 7S. If you are interested in helping, please contact Amy Catt at [email protected]
The safety of our St. Anthony School community is one of our top priorities. Our school implements and practices school safety protocols every year. Our school continually reviews safety plans for natural events (tornado, earthquake), building issues (fire), and threats of violence (lockdowns, lockouts). We are in constant communication with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and local law enforcement to ensure that we are doing everything we can to keep our community safe. At the beginning of each year and throughout the year, safety protocols are reviewed with staff and students. Each month we will perform safety drills to help us be better prepared if an actual situation arises. It is important that you speak with your children about the importance of safety within our school community and the importance of taking safety drills seriously. It is also important that we stress to students if they see or hear something that doesn’t seem quite right, speak up and say something. We appreciate your help and support in this matter.
I want to give a huge shout out to Jennifer Vizhnay, Edwin Jarboe, and all those who helped with the Father Daughter Dance. From the beautiful decorations, to the yummy dinner, to the dancing I know everyone enjoyed the evening. This was another wonderful event that provided the opportunity to gather and share fellowship with many members of our St. Anthony School community.

If you are wanting to volunteer in the building or perhaps attend a field trip or classroom party you must be Safe Parish trained. This short training comes with a required background check. ALL adults within the building or interacting with our school children must complete this training and check. The training program changed last year so if you did a training in previous years (Safe and Sacred) you will need to renew your certification. Click the link below and then select “Register” to get started. The Parish Code needed is ArchIndy2021. https://www.archindysafeparish.org/
We are very excited to announce that the 9th Congressional District will be hosting its annual U.S. Service Academy Day on Saturday, September 10 at Seymour High School. Attached you will find further details pertaining to our event.
I hope everyone was able to set up their PowerSchool account. Be sure to check your junk or spam folders for the confirmation email when doing so. We will no longer be using Jupiter for grades or Communication. If you have not created an account, please do so as soon as possible. A letter was sent home last week with the account information. Again please be patient with all faculty and staff as we continue to learn about PowerSchool Our school utilizes the School Messenger system to broadcast messages and emergency alerts. The message will be sent via email and text messaging. You will need to “Opt In” to School Messenger to get the alerts via text message on your mobile device. You can participate in this free service just by sending a test message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. The reply message you receive may say Archdiocese of Indianapolis, but you are connected to St. Anthony School.
Come be a part of our Bear Nation Parent Group. This group is similar to a PTO. The group discusses and plans events, activities, and fundraisers for the school year. The meetings are held once a month in the school cafeteria. The meetings are on the last Wednesday of each month at 6:30. Our first meeting will be August 31. Please plan to attend and share ideas for the school year.
A big shout out to our Athletic Committee for hosting the Bear Nation BBQ. It was an evening filled with fun and fellowship with our entire Bear Nation. Everyone enjoyed the event, the food and the fun! Thanks to everyone who put this event together and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
Students are only allowed to wear the St. Anthony School sweatshirt or a navy blue or white button down sweater during the school day. Students are not allowed to where any type of sweatshirt, hoodie or jacket. Remember that sweatshirts can be purchased at RiverCity Workwear.
It is very important that you keep your account up to date in our cafeteria. When a family’s account gets below $10.00 per child, a paper is sent home indicating the amount remaining in the account. Frequently, in such cases, many parents respond by sending just the amount listed, as though the reminder is a statement of an amount that is overdue. They pay that exact amount. Then, within the next week, the account is once again depleted, and another notice must be sent home. It is important to note that when such a notice is sent home, it is not meant to be a bill; rather it is a reminder to pay the amount listed plus an additional amount to replenish the account for an extended period of time. If a families account gets to -$20, the family will not be allowed to get extras. A statement will be home stating the family may not receive extras. This includes an extra entree, juice or water. If the bill is not paid in a timely manner, you will receive a phone call from the school. The family may be asked to start bring their lunch to school. Don’t forget you can fill out a free and reduced lunch application and return to school to see if you are eligible.
School pictures will be taken tomorrow for all grades. We will again use Inter-State Studio this year for our school pictures. Order forms were sent home last week. It is highly recommended that families place orders online. Students may be out of uniform on the day that their picture is taken. Guidelines for out of uniform days are in the school handbook and are listed below. Throughout the school year, certain days are designated as non-uniform days. It is expected that students be dressed appropriately on such days. The following uniform rules apply even on non-uniform days: Jewelry, hair, and make-up rules for uniform days also apply for non-uniform days Among types of clothing not permitted are the following: Sleeveless tops and tank tops Skinny jeans, leggings, or yoga pants, Jeans or pants with holes See-through blouses and/or extremely short skirts or shorts Clothing with drug-related logos or slogans Clothing that reveals underwear, bare shoulders, or midriff Clothing that makes others feel uncomfortable or is disruptive to the learning process Clothing that is considered obscene Clothing that contains profanity or racial remarks, is offensive to the general population, or is associated with gangs
We have maintained contact with the Clark County Health Department throughout the summer and school administrators had a conference call last week to discuss plans for the new school year. The State Health Department also updated schools on protocols and mitigation strategies. Health Departments are encouraging masking in schools, but are not mandating their use. Any student who wishes to wear a mask in the school building is more than welcome to do so. The quarantine period for positive cases is still 5 days. Students may return on day 6 if they have been fever and symptom free for at least 24 hours, but the CCHD requires the positive case to wear a mask on days 6-10. We will continue to stay in touch with the health department throughout the year and we will be prompt in updating our families when necessary. If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home. Also, if your child has tested positive for Covid notify the office immediately. We will send more information home in next week’s Bear Facts.
We will have a spirit wear day once a month this year. Our spirit wear day will always be the 2nd Friday of the month. Students will be allowed to wear a St. Anthony spirit wear shirt with uniform bottoms. Our first spirit wear day will be Friday August, 12. Let’s go Bears!

A reminder that extremes in hair coloring and styles are not permitted for boys or girls. All hair shall be worn above the eyebrows and must be kept clean, neat, and trimmed. We want to see those eyes! For males, extremes in length can be defined as anything longer than the collar of a dress shirt. In addition, boys may not have ponytails or man buns. If a haircut has not yet been scheduled and your child falls into the above category of extreme length or you can't see their eyes, please be sure this is taken care of prior to Wednesday, August 17.
