A letter was sent home to all families yesterday regarding new guidance from the Indiana Department of Health. St. Anthony School will be making the following changes based on the new guidance from the Indiana Department of Health: Effective Monday, February 28, 2022, face masks will be recommended (parental choice). Contact tracing and quarantines are no longer required for those exposed to COVID-19. We will continue to make families aware of potential exposure and the importance of monitoring symptoms. If an individual tests positive for COVID-19, then notify the school office and the individual must isolate for 5 full days from the start of symptoms or the date of the positive test. In order to return to school, the individual must wear a mask for an additional 5-day period (Days 6-10). If at any time our school has a drastic increase in absenteeism, a COVID-19 outbreak, or receives new guidance from the state or local health departments, then we will consider requiring masks for a period of time. Please do not send your child to school if he or she has any symptoms of illness. As with any illness, individuals should not return to school unless they are fever free for at least 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medication) and their symptoms are resolving.
Congratulations to our St. Anthony School Academic Olympic teams who recently participated in a deanery wide competition at Providence High School. We were not able to have the competition last year due to Covid. We were excited to be a part of the competition and thankful to PHS for hosting this wonderful event. Academic Olympics is a quick recall competition. Teams practice for several months leading up to the competition. Our 8th grade team, consisting of Lincoln Ellorimo, Chase Farris, Lola Fisher, Abby Hoyland, and Baylee Tucker went up against some fierce competition and just barely missed making it to the championship round. Our 7th grade team consisting of Lucia Bartley, Hannah Cano, Bryce Lopez, Emily Mendez, and Emily Zaragoza had a great competition. This was their first experience with Academic Olympics, and they are already making plans to come back strong next year. The 6th grade team members were Luke Bettler, Miles Conner, Grace Duggins, Jacob Dunbar, and Eliot Ross. The team came ready to play and brought back a 1st place. They are definitely ready for a repeat next year! A huge shout out to our coaches for dedicating their time to help our teams. Thanks to Sarah Dunbar, Emily Fisher, and Jennifer Kelly.
We are sold out of our $10 and $25 raffle tickets. This is a final plea to sell those $50 Raffle tickets. We have about 50 tickets left. We will also sell these the night of the event. We are looking forward to an exciting night and can’t wait to see you there.
During Catholic Schools Week, we started a Coin War between our Kindergarten to 8th grade classes to raise money to purchase a new basketball goal for the playground. To show once again how amazing Bear Nation is, we collected $2,213.93!!! Add to this the $1,000 match from our Athletic Committee, and we have over $3,200. The winning class was 1P and they will receive a pizza party. This was only a slim victory over 6D, who will receive an ice cream party. We would like to thank every student who participated and helped us reach our goal. A special shout out to our Athletic Committee for their support and donation. It is always a great day to be a bear!
Have you sent in your order form for the Reverse Raffle? $10 raffle tickets are SOLD OUT! We still have plenty of $25 and $50 tickets. Please support our school by purchasing raffle tickets and have a chance at winning cash. You do not have to be present to win! An order form is included in the Bear Facts, please help support SAS and sell dinner and raffle tickets. We would love to sell all of our raffle tickets before the night of the event. Pass along the order form to family and friends. The Reverse Raffle is set for Saturday, February 26 at 6:00 PM in the Parish Gym. An order form is included in the Bear Facts, please help support SAS and sell dinner and raffle tickets. Dinner orders must be placed by Friday, February 18.
We will have a Bear Nation Parent Meeting on Thursday, February 17 at 6:30 in the school cafeteria. All parents are invited to the parent meeting. This is a great opportunity to share ideas about events and activities at the school. We will be discussing the Reverse Raffle at the meeting. We hope to see you there.
I want to give a huge shout out to Keith Conn (Maintenance supervisor) and Brian Fisher (Parent) for taking their time on Sunday to clear the walkways around school. I appreciate all of their help in making sure that we could safely come to school Monday morning. THANK YOU!
It is hard to believe that we have reached the halfway point of the 3rd quarter. Please make sure to check your child’s grades in Jupiter. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
We had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week. Students celebrated our school community, our church, teachers, vocations, and our nation. It was great to see our students bringing in many items for St. Elizabeth’s Charity. Seeing the excitement in their eyes when they were filling the coin war jugs was amazing. They worked together to help those in need and reaching a goal to purchase a new basketball goal. Catholic Schools Week is a great time to see how much our students enjoy being a part of SAS and Bear Nation!
Classrooms will have their Valentine’s Day Party on Monday, February 14. Head room parents will be reaching out to helpers to send in items for the celebration. Students may bring in Valentine’s to share with classmates. We ask that Valentine’s are sent in, there is one for every student in the class. Students will be allowed to wear a Valentine’s Day shirt or red/pink/white shirt with uniform bottoms.
This week we continue to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. The theme of our celebration is “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.” The theme encompasses the core products and values that can be found in Catholic schools across the country. Not only are we teaching students to become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples and enriched citizens in our communities, educators are growing with them. In Catholic schools, we are all learners, servants and leaders. These shared qualities are what make Catholic schools work. They are what make Catholic schools succeed. I am grateful every day for the teachers, staff, parents, students and volunteers who make our school a success. National Catholic Schools Week is a good time for all of us to thank them for their dedication and service.
I am sure everyone has seen the weather prediction for Thursday and Friday. We will prepare for the possibility of two days of virtual learning by sending home items with students tonight. The is just a precautionary measure; the decision has NOT been made for the two days. I will watch the forecast closely and do my best to make a decision as soon as I can. I will send out a message via Jupiter, WDRB Snow Fox alert and our Facebook page. My top priority is the safety of our school community.
We had a successful Open House this weekend. We had many new families tour the building and register to be a part of St. Anthony School. Thank you to everyone for spreading the word about our wonderful school. A huge shout out to our teachers and parent volunteers for helping with this event. If you know of families interested in learning more about our school, please have them call the school office or send Mrs. Tucker an email.
