I know that anti-bacterial wipes are a hot commodity right now. We have been using a great deal of wipes, as we continue to consistently sanitize throughout the building. If you have any extra wipes or see some at the store, please consider donating to the school. We greatly appreciate your help in this matter.
A huge thank you to Jennifer Vizhnay and all who helped with Trunk or Treat. Thanks to all those who decorated a trunk and gave out candy. It was a great event and it provided a little bit of normalcy for the kids.
I wanted to provide some information regarding our morning temperature screenings. This process has gone very well so far this year. This was not a requirement for schools, but we made this decision to help mitigate the spread of COVID. We have noticed that as the weather has turned cooler our readings may not be as accurate. Our thermometers are out in the colder temps and we have students exiting heated vehicles; both of these factors may cause inaccurate readings. As an added precaution, most days students will have their temperature checked as they enter the cafeteria. We are currently evaluating this process to determine next steps as we enter the winter months.
Winter months are quickly approaching and this brings the possibility of inclement weather. Inclement weather could cause a delayed opening or cancellation of school. Please review the information below regarding inclement weather procedures. ● Delay or cancellation of school will be posted or broadcast in the following ways: WDRB TV, St. Anthony School Facebook Page and Website, and a message from Jupiter. ● A delayed schedule (2 hour delay) will result in the building opening at 8:00 and school beginning at 9:50 This year, we would like to have virtual learning days if we must cancel school for any reason. This would mean that students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade will be required to access Google Classroom during the day. Assignments will be posted by the teacher. We will be sending home more details regarding virtual learning. We will not have any more than three consecutive Virtual Learning Days. If we have more than 3 days of Virtual Learning, then January 18th, February 15th and April 30 are set aside as make up days.
This year to honor Veteran’s Day we will be collecting items for the 1163rd MCAS Kentucky Army National Guard. This group is currently stationed in Poland.
According to the CDC, getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2020-2021 to protect yourself, your family and your community from flu. A flu vaccine this season can also help reduce the burden on our healthcare systems responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and save medical resources for care of COVID-19 patients. September and October are good times to get a flu vaccine.
As we work to promote vocations in our Catholic schools, the Vocations Office and the Office of Catholic Schools have teamed together to establish the “Adopt a Seminarian” Program. Each Catholic School has been assigned a seminarian. This year we will be adopting Tyler Huber. We will be praying for Tyler throughout the school year and will do special projects for him. Our hope is that Tyler will have the opportunity to come and visit with the kids before the end of the year.
This year, we are having a Yearbook Cover Contest. SAS students who are interested will get a chance to show off their artistic side by creating the cover of our 2020-2021 yearbook! They will need to incorporate in some way the theme, "One Team" along with our school name and the school year (St. Anthony School - 2020-2021). They may use any medium they wish (crayon, colored pencil, paint, digital, etc.) The turn in date is NO LATER than Friday, October 30th. If your child is interested, please see Mrs. Harrington if they need paper or have any questions. Mrs. Duggins is available if they have any art questions or need to use supplies.
Students are getting ready for Red Ribbon Week® 2020 – this year’s theme is: Be Happy. Be Brave. Drug Free. At school, students will engage in activities that promote a drug free and healthy lifestyle. DID YOU KNOW? Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Red Ribbon Week® (October 26-30), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started. Please see the Red Ribbon Flyer to see how our SAS Bears will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week beginning on Monday, October 26.
It is hard to believe we are already working on the 2021-2022 school calendar. As a Deanery, all of the Catholic schools have agreed to the same start and end date, and the same fall and spring breaks. Below are the major days off for next school year. 1st Day of School August 4th Fall Break October 1st-8th Thanksgiving Break November 24-26 Christmas Break December 20-January 3 Spring Break March 18th-25th Last Day of School May 25th
If a student stays home due to illness, then the following protocol should be followed. Notify the office that your child will be absent, please give the reason for the absence. The child may return to school if they have a doctor’s note and have been symptom/fever free for at least 72 hours OR have a negative COVID test result and have been symptom/fever free for at least 72 hours OR have isolated for 10 days and have been symptom/fever free for at least 72 hours. Students can access Google Classroom to complete work while they are out of school. We understand that students may stay home because they are not feeling well, but not necessarily having specific COVID symptoms. Unfortunately with so many unknowns to COVID, we must follow this same protocol for any child who stays home sick. We want to take every precaution necessary to keep our school community healthy and safe. We ask for your cooperation and support in this matter. Symptoms of COVID-19 (Does not include all possible symptoms) •Temperature 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher (or school board policy if threshold is lower) • Sore throat • New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/ asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline) • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever • New loss of taste or smell
As we begin the new quarter, it is very important that we continue to follow the protocols from the Health Department and CDC to keep our school safe and healthy. We have done a great job so far, but we still have a challenging road ahead. I hope we can continue to work together to mitigate the spread of any sickness in our school community.
As the end of the 1st quarter quickly approaches, it is very important that all accounts are kept up to date. Please send in any payments you may have for lunch, after school care, and/or tuition. If you have an questions regarding accounts, please contact Mrs. Emily Fisher.
We are so happy that all students are given the opportunity to receive free lunch through Christmas Break. Please remember that any previous balance must be paid and kept up to date. Also, students will be charged for extra entrees/drinks, apple juice, and water. Lunch bills are sent home on a weekly basis and payment should be sent in as soon as possible. Students will not be allowed to receive any type of “extra” if lunch bills are not kept current.
