Each year, the Clark County Sherriff’s Department hosts a class for fifth graders in which they learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Sergeant Joe Waters spent ten weeks with the students during which time the students learned about the harmful effects of illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. They practiced using a decision model so they can be prepared to recognize the consequences of their decisions. Finally, they discussed bullying and cyber-bulling. The course ended in an essay contest. The classroom winners were Lola Fisher from 5H and Abby Hoyland from 5L. The overall school winner was Abby Hoyland. Congratulations to all the essay winners and D.A.R.E. graduates!

Each student researched the history of a woman’s right to vote in our country and wrote an essay on their findings. We are pleased to announce that St. Anthony’s has two first place winners who were honored at a DAR meeting in February. In addition to their awards, the students received a monetary gift of $50.00 each. • The 7th grade first place winner was Mark Sears. • The 8th grade first place winner was Emma Scharre.

Way to Go, Jackson! I would also like to give a shout out to many of our students in Junior High for their success in multiple essay contests.
The New Albany Deanery Fine Arts Fair competition is coming up after Spring Break. This is a perfect time to sharpen your pencils to draw, fluff up your brushes to paint, heat up your glue gun to construct a 3-D piece, and sharpen your focus to capture an unforgettable photograph; all to create award-winning pieces for St. Anthony School. Entries will be accepted from Grades 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and Grades 7 & 8. Remember when entering your artwork that presentation is key to winning. If you glue or tape your 2-D art on poster board or place in a frame the judges will see your art so much better. The same is true for photography when you put it in a frame. Good luck over spring break with your ideas. The entries and filled out form are due to Mrs. Roehm at School on Tuesday, April 23rd. Forms are coming home today in the Bear Facts or can be picked up in the Art room. Mrs. Roehm will deliver the pieces to Providence High School. Thanks for stepping up and sharing your special talents with everyone.
