WOW! St. Anthony’s put on an amazing performance of Lion King Jr. I would like to give a special shout out to Mrs. Doerr and Ms. Futter and the many teachers, parents, and students who put on such a wonderful production of Lion King Jr. From the set design to the costumes to the musical talent the show was fantastic. We truly have amazing talent here at SAS. Thanks to the cast for all of your hard work. I heard so many wonderful reviews of the show. I would also like to thank Mrs. Jacque Singleton for her choreography; Mr. Tony Singleton for help with the lighting; the Reyes family for their help with the sound system, and Jeff Wagner our first Student Director.

Students in grades 3 through 8 will begin ISTEP+ testing on Monday, February 26th and will test through the week. Students in grade 3 will take the IREAD Test beginning on Monday, March 5th. It is very important that the students get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and be at school on time. Tardy students will have to remain in the office if their class has stated the test. Please, it is very important for your child to be at school each day and on time so that we do not have to arrange for make-up testing time.

Wow, what a great parish turnout for the Saint Anthony Youth Ministry Father- Daughter Dance! We loved seeing so many beautiful gals with their lovely dresses spending an evening with their special date. It was heartwarming to see so many girls show up to the dance with a sparkle in their eye and a smile on their face. Hats off to all of the dads, grandfathers and other special guys who danced the night away while creating memories they will cherish for a lifetime. Lots of photos can be found on the Saint Anthony Youth Ministry Facebook page and on the parish website.

Each year, the Clark County Sherriff’s Department hosts a class for fifth graders in which they learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Sergeant Joe Waters spent ten weeks with the students during which time the students learned about the harmful effects of illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. They practiced using a decision model so they can be prepared to recognize the consequences of their decisions. Finally, they discussed bullying and cyber-bulling. The course ended in an essay contest. The classroom winners were Destiny Deaver, Henry Dixon, and Drew Kelly. The overall school winner was Drew Kelly. Congratulations to all the essay winners and D.A.R.E. graduates!

We had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week! We enjoyed many activities throughout the week. We had out of uniform days, shared random acts of kindness, watched a movie as a whole school, parents came to Mass with students, Justin Campbell gave a vocation speech, we took part in a living rosary, had a pep session, and ended the week with the 8th grade versus teacher volleyball game. It was a fun, faith filled week. We also had a Coin War benefitting Pennies from Heaven and Catholic Charities. I am so amazed at the amount of money we collected. Our grand total that we collected for the two charities was $2000.38. Our classroom winners were: 1st place – 2nd grade with $358.13 2nd place – 1st grade with $297.40 3rd place – Kindergarten with $291.93 4th place – 4th grade with $263.85 Our 2nd graders were treated with front row seats at the volleyball game and enjoy a special treat. Great Job!
