Our Theatre Department is in need of some volunteers to help create animal head pieces for our production of the Lion King Jr. next year. We will need every costume to have an animal headpiece and other puppet type animals created. This will be a large production and Mrs. Doerr would like to get a jump start by getting a creative committee in place before summer break. If you are interested and want to get involved in our amazing Theatre Department, please email Mrs. Doerr at s.doerr@stanthonyschool.us.

We will honor Mary, the mother of Jesus, with the crowning of Mary after Mass on Wednesday, May 3rd. As part of the ceremony, each 8th Grader will carry a bouquet of flowers in the procession and place them before the statue of Mary in the sanctuary of the church. Songs and prayers will follow, and an eighth grade student will culminate the ceremony by placing a crown of flowers on the statue of the Blessed Mother. If you have any flowers in your yard, please send them to school before the service on Monday, May 1st or Tuesday, May 2nd. Parents are welcome to attend the Mass followed by the May Crowning. In addition to the Marian Service on Wednesday, there will be a Mary altar in the first floor hallway through the month of May. In order to keep the altar adorned with fresh flowers, we ask that you send flowers in throughout the month.

Each year, the Clark County Sherriff’s Department hosts a class for fifth graders in which they learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Officer Joe Waters spent ten weeks with the students during which time the students learned about the harmful effects of illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. They practiced using a decision model so they can be prepared to recognize the consequences of their decisions. Finally, they discussed bullying and cyber-bulling. The course ended in an essay contest. The classroom winners were Michele Cooper, Tessa Holifield and Charlotte Fisher. The overall school winner was Charlotte Fisher. Congratulations to all the essay winners and D.A.R.E. graduates!

Several months ago a family (who wants to be anonymous) donated a very nice playground set to the Pre School. We have tried several times to get people to help us assemble the piece. One day last week, I was approached by Mrs. Jennifer Vizhnay and with the help of Mrs. Anabel Cano, the two reached out to some of our families to help us with the project. I am ecstatic to say that with the help of Carlos Cano, Brian and Max Fisher, Eric Goodman, Luis Palafox, and Mauricio Vizhnay this project was completed on Saturday and Sunday. The little ones are going to be so excited to play on it. Thanks to Jennifer and Anabel to get the project started and to the guys for all their hard work. Thank You!

ISTEP+ Testing will begin on Tuesday, April 18th for students in grades 3-8. This testing will take place the rest of that week and into the following week. We have come up with a schedule so that students in the same grade take the test on the same day. It is extremely important that students be at school on time and ready to begin testing at 8:00 AM. It would be beneficial for them to have a good night sleep and to have a nutritious breakfast in the morning. Parents, this test will help us to measure the progress that the students have made during the school year; therefore, it is important that you talk to your students about doing their best.

Our annual Walk-A-Thon is upon us. Please look over all the forms and fill them out. If we do not have all the proper forms filled out your child might miss out on a fun filled day. Please note that there is a recommended $25 donation for each student/family. The School/PTO does this once a year to help fund all our expenses. We need to raise a minimum of $15,000 each year to be able to support all of the things that we usually do for the students, school, and teachers. Please help us as much as you can with our Walk-A-Thon. Thanks for your support. This year we will not have a water station. We encourage each child to bring their own bottle of water to use while they walk. A drink and a snack will be given to the students after they walk. All students must have a signed permission slip in order to walk. Please return your slip as soon as possible. Students will not be allowed to call home to get a parent to come and sign the slip. Click on this title to download a copy of the permission slip and pledge sheet.

St. Anthony School is proud to announce that Abby Hanlon has won the overall 8th Grade Archdiocese of Indianapolis Serra Club’s Essay Contest for 2017. Abby’s essay on Discipleship was chosen from all essays submitted in her grade level. Her essay encompassed the ways she has learned what it means to be a disciple through the ministry or witness of a man or woman in consecrated life. Abby wrote about the ways Fr. Joseph West has impacted her life. It was a beautiful, well-written essay that she is invited to read in Indianapolis on April 18th. Abby will be honored with a luncheon for her and her family. Abby will receive a beautiful plaque and a cash award to recognize her achievement.
