The essay this year centered on the importance of Ellis Island. Each student researched the history and purpose of Ellis Island and wrote an essay on their findings. Some of our students were able to include personal family memories of their grandparents and great-grandparents’ experiences on Ellis Island. We are pleased to announce that St. Anthony’s has two first place winners who in addition to their awards will receive a monetary gift of $50.00 each. I am happy to announce that the school made $3,887.90 on the recent production of Peter Pan, Junior. With this money we will offset the cost of the costumes, the cost of the scenery, play rights, and any other items that needed to be made or purchased for the play. The remaining funds go back into the Drama/Music Department to be used to purchase items for future performances to enhance the quality of our shows. Recently, we purchased new risers and four body microphones and 2 two standing microphones. This year we are looking into purchasing overhead hanging Microphones, new speakers and a monitor sound system.
On Good Friday, April 3rd, we will dismiss at 1:30 PM. We think this would be an excellent opportunity for all parents and students to attend Good Friday Services which will begin at 3:00 PM.
I am happy to announce that our school winner, Monica Nokes, participated in the Regional Bee and of the 30 winners, Monica finished in the top ten spellers. Congratulations, Monica, we are very proud of you!
Back in November, we held a school Geography Bee where classroom winners competed and Claire Reyes was named our school winner. Claire then had to take a test to determine if she would be eligible to compete at the state level. We found out this week that Claire scored high enough on this test to compete in the State Competition held in Indianapolis on March 27th. This is a huge accomplishment since only the top 100 school winners in the state of Indiana tested high enough to compete at the state level. If Claire wins at the state level, she will then advance on the National Competition held in Washington D.C. Good Luck, Claire!!
