I was awakened on Wednesday morning at 6:10 AM by one of the janitors to let me know that we had several inches of water over the first floor. I immediately called Leroy Wilson, our maintenance person, and the two of us went to St. Anthony School. Tuesday, the Water Company had turned off all the water to the property around 10 am. We know that it had still was not turned back on at 4:30 PM. From what Leroy found, he thinks a toilet in the girl’s restroom on second floor had a valve that stuck bringing 3 to 4 gallons of water every few seconds onto the floor. It had to go somewhere so it came through the ceiling and went into the 4 classrooms, storage closet, my office, the computer lab, the speech room, a small amount into the main office and down the main hallway. We immediately turned the water off and started the cleanup. Realizing it was too big for us, we called ServPro to come and get the water out of the building and to dry out the areas. Due to the water we had to cut the drywall out and remove the cove base. We are waiting for the insurance adjuster to come and tell us what to do with the carpets, the wooden bookcases, and the books and items that were lost by the excessive amount of water that poured into the classrooms. ServPro cleaned all the areas with disinfectants and will return once the walls and cove base have been replaced and will re wax the floors for us. At least this time the library did not get water and neither did the front office except for a few feet from the faculty room. I am happy to say that thanks to the generosity of the staff we have three rooms functioning. We had to move the 3H classroom into Mrs. Tucker’s room. Ms. Hublar’s classroom suffered the most damage and will be awhile before we can get back into the room. Please say a prayer that we get the repairs completed quickly and we get back to some normalcy. Thanks for your understanding and patience.
