Since
1851, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church has served the needs
of the Catholic community in Jeffersonville and Clarksville. From
modest beginnings as the only Catholic Church in Clark County,
the parish has grown and prospered, weathered floods and fire,
and persisted in meeting various challenges through the years.
One important challenge the parish met head on was the construction
of the new church. After a devestating fire that destroyed St.
Anthony’s Church in 1970, the parish pulled together and
began construction of the new church. Fr. Gerard Herman, O.F.M.
Conv., and parishoners dedicated the new building, where the church
now stands, on May 23, 1972. Built on a strong tradition of faith
that continues today, St. Anthony of Padua Church serves its parishioners
and community through its mission to unite in faith and to live
out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
